Baptism & Child Dedication
What Is the Importance of Water Baptism?

Water baptism at Plum Creek is an outward testimony of what has occurred inwardly in a believer’s life. Christian baptism illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
The Bible declares, “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” ~Romans 6:3-4 (NIV)
According to the Bible, water baptism is simply a step of obedience and a public proclamation of one’s faith in Christ alone for salvation. It is important because it is publicly declaring faith in Christ, commitment to Christ, and identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. In water baptism, the action of being immersed in the water symbolizes being buried with Christ in His death. The action of coming out of the water symbolizes being raised with Christ in His resurrection.
Two requirements should be met before a person is baptized:
• The person being baptized must have trusted in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and be able to give a believable profession of his or her faith.
• The person must understand the significance of baptism.
If a person knows the Lord Jesus as Savior and understands that water baptism is a step of obedience in publicly proclaiming his faith in Christ, nothing prevents the Christian believer from being baptized.
If you can answer “Yes” to the two requirements above, we are happy to invite you to participate in one of our baptism services. These requirements are confirmed at a meeting with a pastor prior to the baptism service.

What Is the Importance of Child Dedication?

Child Dedication at Plum Creek is a beautiful and solemn promise made before God and the church to care for the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of your children.
We do not believe a child is saved, given faith, or made right with God during his or her dedication.
By making this promise as a parent, you signify the following:
• Your own saving faith in Christ
• Your desire to teach your children to live a holy and pure life
• Your promise to give your children every opportunity and encouragement to choose to follow Christ.
Child Dedication also recognizes the important role the local church should have in helping your child develop into the well-rounded Christian individual God intends him or her to be.
The believers at Plum Creek should know you and your children. We want to give you prayer support, assist you with Bible teaching, provide opportunities through which you and your children can grow in your faith, and demonstrate what it means to follow Christ.
If Plum Creek is your home church and you are interested in having your child dedicated, we would be happy to assist you in preparing for this special day.
